Today's episode features Part 2 of Johnny Gillespie. Whenever somebody suggests a podcast guest, I do a little bit of research and the first thing that I saw when I was poking around on Johnny’s Facebook page was a video of him and a couple of his buddies doing “Murph” (an insane CrossFit workout) in his basement Thanksgiving morning and right away, I was like, “Alright, I like this dude.”

Johnny is a Buddhist, yoga teacher, husband, father, mentor, meditator, meditation teacher, alignment teacher, business owner and truly a fully balanced man.

A lot of very well-known yoga teachers in New England and around the country, bring Johnny in to their teacher trainings as the opening act. He opens up the teacher trainings with the work he does stemming from one of his companies, Balanced Athlete.

Johnny is a guy-guy with a beautiful bright shiny soul walking through life in a heart centered place and a heart centered mind every step of the way.

I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.

In this Mindset Monday I talk about your Achilles heel. You're most likely getting prepared for 2016, you're setting your goals, you've got your vision, you've got the things you want to accomplish. Well guess what? So do a lot of other people. And guess what? Most people don't accomplish what they set out to accomplish.

That is why today we're talking about your Achilles heal, that thing that's going to take you out. Or those things that are going to take you out. So focus and get crystal clear on what it is that you want to accomplish in the certain realms of your life, but then take a step back and say, "What's going to take me out? What are the different things that have taken me out in the past? What are the things that will pull me away from this goal?" And then I want you to develop a plan for the things that are gonna take you out.

Today’s episode is about paradigm shifting and what I call “imagineering.” What the what? Right? What is paradigm shifting, what is imagineering? What I mean by paradigm shifting is shifting the way that we view the world and the was we view certain circumstances.  When we view things, we all have this lens that we view it through.

It has to do with our parents, it has to do with our environment, some of it has to do with the DNA that we’re brought into the world with. Here’s an easy example, if you were brought up Catholic or you’re brought up Jewish, you have a different paradigm that you view parts of the world through.

Paradigm shifting is having the ability to change the paradigm that you see the world through.  It's quantum change, that big massive change going from seeing things one way to totally seeing them a different way. In this episode I talk about a few different paradigm shifts and then dive into how it relates to your life.

I also talk about imagineering.  Imagineering is the process that happens once you realize that there is something else possible, once you realize that there’s a big beautiful, bold dream that’s been suppressed, maybe it’s something that you’ve always wanted to do in your life but life beat you up. Life got in the way through high school and college and marriage and kids or whatever it may be.

Somehow we forgot to be able to dream.  Once we re-acknowledge that dream or once we awaken a new dream, Imagineering is our mechanism to get that dream to come alive. Imagineering, is the visualizing, it’s the believing, it’s the daily activities, it’s the doing things over and over and over until that dream becomes a reality. That’s imagineering your dream, imagineering your life.

In this episode I talk with Erica Nunnally of the Bija Institute.  It was such an honor to be able to interview Erica and hear her story about the creation of the Bija Institute after one of her two Daughters was diagnosed with cancer when she was three years old.

During this interview there was so many times where I was on the other end of the microphone, just listening to Erica’s Story and I was in tears. It was such an endearing story and the fortitude that her and her husband walked with and what they have done since. They went on to create the Bija Institute and the Bija Foundation.  The Bija Institute is a place to hold retreats or you can go on and retreat yourself.

The foundation is for parents who are going through something similar to what Erica and Eric (her husband) went through.  The foundation is to provide support and give them the opportunity to visit the Bija Institute and get that time to breathe and grieve and do whatever they need to do for themselves because they’re being so strong for their children.

If you are in the market to get a little retreat yourself or to schedule a retreat for a group, definitely check out the Bija Institute in Cumberland, Rhode Island.

Welcome to today's episode of Mindset Money. In this episode we're talking about meditation for the non meditators. If you're anything like me, meditation did not work at first. I got really uncomfortable, I got anxious, I did not like to sit still and it was because I really didn't understand how to do it.  In todays episode I break Meditation down for you and keep it super simple so you have a clear understanding and you can actually start meditating today.

 Enjoy!!

Today’s episode is about “choosing your superpower.” What do we mean by choosing your superpower?

We are talking about inspiration or desperation.

It’s nothing fancy. People want to know, “What are the big secrets, what’s this, what’s that? How do I do this, how do I make a change?” I believe that through either inspiration or desperation, you’ll have what you need to keep yourself going through the tough times.

When we are looking to make change in our life, when we are looking to start a business, when we are looking to get into that new relationship, when we’re looking to move from one financial bracket to the next, when we’re looking to buy the new house, when we’re looking to get the new job, to raise our kids in a certain way. Whatever it is that you’re looking to create in your life. For me, it’s a certain life that I want to live. I want to live a certain way and it’s different from the set of skills, the set of information that was passed down to me from my parents and grandparents.

I'm talking about how Amy and I were looking to make a change in the way that we live and in the way that we raise our kids and looking at that, it’s not really that I look at what my parents did and think that there’s anything wrong with it, it’s just not what I want. When you want to make that type of change, you need one of these two superpowers, inspiration or desperation.

Looking at the people that I work with really close, the ones I have mentored one on one to have massive change in their lives, the ones who have gone from confused and lost without direction to becoming empowered and unstoppable to eventually, being in the stories of others.  One of the things that we really focus in on in the beginning is inspiration and desperation. One of those two pieces or a combination of the both are necessary in order to make the changes we want in our lives. I n this episode we dive deep into each one of these and give a few examples.

Today’s guest we have on David Vendetti. David is the owner of South Boston Yoga, a VERY large and VERY busy yoga studio in the South Boston area.

It was a beautiful conversation today — it was first time I’ve had the opportunity to really sit and talk with him and I personally learned so much. I learned about his philosophy on life and really just a kind hearted compassionate person that’s spreading love and light out there in this world. It started out by talking about how he was adopted and then at the age of 12 or 13, when he was in the 7th grade he was asked to leave Milton Academy because he was too artistic.

And for anybody who knows Milton Academy, that right there says that David is a very smart man. We talked about all kinds of stuff from meditation to what’s going on within our country and within our states with letting in Syrian refugees. We talked about him just going recently through double hip surgery and the recovery both physical and emotional with that.

We talked about the Yoga studios and his philosophy on helping and empowering people. It was a beautiful opportunity for me to be able to learn and really get to understand a little bit deeper about my life and my path. I hope you enjoy this episode.  If it’s your first time on, enjoy. It’s a very casual podcast. We’re not going to get too serious or crazy in it. There is no structured flow, we just take the conversations as they go and this was a beautiful flowing conversation.

Welcome to the very first episode of Mindset Monday. Super excited to be bringing this to you and this is one where we're going to be talking about The different mindset techniques or the different mindsets that I've cultivated and created and the fundamentals that I've really based my life off of through all the different mentors, guides, and teachers that I've had the luxury and the privilege to have in my life.

Today I want to talk about working harder on you than you do on your job, than you do as a parent, than you do as a husband, as a wife, as a business owner, as a leader, whatever it may be. And what do we mean by this? So many times we get caught up in what we need to do. Like, the laundry needs to be folded, the kids need to be brought here, this needs to be done, the phone calls have to be returned, the emails have to be returned, the deadlines have to be hit.

And we get in this repetitious zone, this repetitious way of life and we're just constantly putting out these fires. And when we do this, our own personal care, and our own personal development gets put on the side.

This philosophy of life, working harder on yourself than you do on everything else, what does that mean?

That means working hard with your fitness, working hard with clearing out any emotional things that need to be healed, working hard with a therapist, working hard with a mentor, working hard with a guide, sitting down having conversations with those people that you need to have conversations with, and growing as a person. Working harder on yourself, you as a person, that internal work to become the person that you need to become to do the things that you wanna do in life.

If we want something to change, if we want to do more, be more, get more, receive more of all the beauty that life has to offer, we have to become more. In order to become more, we have to work harder on ourselves than we do on everything else.

In this episode, I catch up with an old friend, Danny Dwyer. We dive deep into how he went from addicted to heroin and homeless for four years, to now being sober for 10+ years. We talk about how he got started with drugs when he was 8 years old, the progression, getting kicked off the Boston Police Department for buying heroin, to eventually overdosing 2 times. Then we dive into the man he is today, how he got clean, his two amazing sons, Danny and Luke, and the "hero" work he now does.

In this episode, I talk about how I drank my first six pack of beer in the 7th grade, how that led to blacking out 2-3 nights a week throughout high school and getting kicked off the high school football team, and then onto college where I was blacking out sometimes 5 nights a week and eventually hitting rock bottom and getting drunk for the last time in Mardi Gras with a group of college friends. After that, my healing journey began with a dedicated yoga practice, intense therapy and a spiritual path that I fell in love with. Eventually, I began living the life I now have and loving it. Now I'm spending every day, doing what I want, when I want, with who I want.

I’ve found the simplest and most effective way to be; getting crystal clear on what it is you want to accomplish, holding a vision of that and then just focusing on the next step. Take it one step at a time until you have realized the vision you initially held.

In this episode I interview Jacqui Bonwell, who I’ve nicknamed The Spiritual Mother of New England.. Enjoy!!
